World Smarts STEM Challenge Mentor Recruitment

IREX is seeking educators to serve as mentors for the World Smarts STEM Challenge, a 10-week virtual exchange program funded by the National Science Foundation. The program pairs high school students in the US and Ghana on binational teams to collaborate on sustainable STEM solutions to global challenges inspired by the UN SDGs. Each mentor will partner with an educator in Ghana to lead a team of students to complete the program milestones, including researching, brainstorming, designing, testing, and pitching of their innovative solutions. Through the program, students will develop skills in cross-cultural collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving.

High school educators in the Washington, DC metropolitan area are invited to apply to become World Smarts STEM Challenge Mentors, who are responsible for implementing the program in their schools. Activities include Virtual Mentor training, the 10-week Binational Virtual STEM Challenge, and a Virtual Global STEM Exhibit and Expo. Benefits include a $500 honorarium upon program completion; $300 for prototype development; professional development certification; mentor coaching; as well as local and global networking opportunities.
